What is tendon repair surgery?
Tendon repair surgery is a surgical procedure performed to treat a torn or damaged tendon. Tendons are the thin tissues that connect muscles to bones. When muscles contract, tendons pull on bones and cause joints to move.

Postoperative recovery and care
Tendon repairs are usually performed on an outpatient basis. This means that the patient can go home after the surgery. If the patient remains in the hospital, it is usually for a short period of time.
Recovery may take up to 12 weeks. The injured tendon needs to be supported with a splint or cast to avoid moving the repaired tendon.
Physiotherapy is usually necessary to restore movement in a safe manner. Movement often returns gradually with some stiffness.
The patient may need treatment after surgery to reduce scar tissue. Because the presence of a lot of scar tissue may make it difficult to move the damaged tendon.
