Coronary artery resection in Türkiye

Coronary artery is a procedure to remove plaque (clot of fat and organic deposits) from an artery (blood vessel). Removing the plaque makes the artery wider, so blood can flow more freely to the heart muscles . In a Coronary artery, the plaque is cut or vaporized with small rotating blades or a laser at the end of a catheter (a thin, flexible tube).

This procedure is used to treat peripheral artery disease and coronary artery disease. Arterectomy is sometimes performed on patients with very solid plaques or on patients who have already had angioplasty and stents, but who still have plaques blocking blood flow.

What is the painting?

Plaque is a buildup in the arteries of fat, cholesterol, calcium and other substances. When plaque builds up, it can block blood flow, or it can rupture, causing blood to clot. This plaque buildup is called atherosclerosis. Arterectomy is a treatment for atherosclerosis.

How is a coronary artery bypass surgery performed?

Arterectomy is performed in a cardiac catheterization laboratory. Before an arterectomy, the patient receives sedative medications to help him relax. Next, the catheter is gently inserted into an artery, usually in the groin or groin area.

It is then directed through the blood vessels towards the heart. When they are in place, dye is injected through the catheter and into the coronary arteries. An X-ray is taken to help the doctor locate the blocked or narrowed area. Then the doctor uses small blades or a laser attached to the end of the catheter to cut or vaporize the plaque.

After arterectomy, angioplasty or stenting is sometimes performed. Once treatment is complete, the catheter is removed. Most patients go home after about 24 hours.

What are the possible risks and complications of a coronary artery resection?

Your doctor will discuss the specific risks and potential benefits of the recommended procedure with you. Atherectomy usually has no complications.

But as with any surgery, there is a risk of complications, such as embolization (dislocation of debris blocking the arteries in the lower leg) and perforation. However, these complications are rare.

An unusual complication of atherectomy is re-blockage of the artery (restenosis) which may occur later, especially if you smoke cigarettes. Special precautions are taken to reduce this risk, and there may be other possible risks.
