Endometriosis treatment in Türkiye

Endometriosis treatment is called endometriosis.

Endometriosis causes tissue that normally grows on the inner lining of the uterus to implant in other parts of your abdomen.

Displaced tissue can cause symptoms such as pain that can occur during menstruation, sexual intercourse, or bowel movements. Having endometriosis may also make it difficult to get pregnant.

Treatments can ease your pain and improve your odds of getting pregnant.

But it can be difficult to know what to expect from the surgery and whether or not it’s the right decision for you. Here are some answers to questions you may have about endometrial surgery.

What are the ways to treat endometriosis immigrant?

Doctors use two main treatments for endometriosis: non-surgical and surgical.

For some women with mild symptoms, pain relievers such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve) are enough to control symptoms.

For other women, hormones from birth control pills or an intrauterine device ( IUD ) can prevent the lining of the uterus from growing. Surgery is not the first response.

Endometriosis surgery?

Your doctor may recommend surgery if you have severe, extremely painful endometriosis, and if medication doesn’t help. Surgery may also be an option if you have been trying to conceive but have been unsuccessful. Removing endometrial tissue can increase the odds of pregnancy.

Having surgery is a big decision — especially if you’re considering a hysterectomy, which removes the uterus and possibly the ovaries. Without the ovaries and uterus, you cannot get pregnant.

What types of surgery are used to treat endometriosis?

Doctors perform two main types of surgery to treat endometriosis:

  • Conservative surgery removes   as much endometrial tissue as possible, but spares the reproductive organs (ovaries and uterus). When your doctor performs this procedure through small incisions, it is called laparoscopy . Laparoscopy may also be used to diagnose endometriosis.
  • Hysterectomy treats   more severe endometriosis. The surgeon removes the uterus, and possibly the cervix and ovaries. If you undergo this surgery, you will not be able to become pregnant.

What happens during the surgery?

You may need to prepare a day or so before surgery. For example, your doctor may ask you to take medication to completely empty your bowels the day before surgery.

During laparoscopy:

  • You will be pain free under general anesthesia.
  • Your abdomen will be filled with gas to help the surgeon see inside your abdomen.
  • The surgeon will make a few small incisions near your belly button. He will insert a lighted scope into one slit. Surgical instruments will be inserted into the other openings.
  • The surgeon will use a knife, heat, or a laser to remove as much endometrial tissue as possible from organs such as the ovaries, bladder, fallopian tubes, and rectum. A sample of this tissue may go to a lab for testing. The surgeon will also remove any scar tissue in these organs.
  • Finally, the surgeon will close the incisions

You should be able to go home the same day as the surgery.

A hysterectomy removes the uterus itself and possibly the cervix. You may also undergo surgery to remove your ovaries and fallopian tubes, which is called an oophorectomy.

Hysterectomy can be performed to treat endometriosis in several different ways:

  • ventrally.  The surgeon makes an incision in the lower pelvis and removes the uterus and other reproductive organs through this incision.
  • vaginally  The surgeon removes the uterus and cervix through the vagina. There is no incision.
  • Endoscopic.  The surgeon makes small incisions in your abdomen. The uterus and possibly the cervix and ovaries are removed through these incisions.

You may be able to go home the same day as your laparoscopic hysterectomy. But open surgery usually requires an overnight hospital stay.

What to expect after surgery

You will recover faster after laparoscopic surgery compared to an open hysterectomy. Your activities may be limited for the first two days or weeks after the operation.

Ask your doctor when you can return to driving, working and exercising. Full recovery from a hysterectomy can take four to six weeks.

After laparoscopy, you may have shoulder pain. This is caused by trapped gas in your stomach. The pain should go away within two to three days.

Once you have a hysterectomy, you will no longer have a period. If your ovaries are removed, you will begin menopause. This means that you may experience the effects of menopause, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and loss of bone density. Talk to your doctor about how to manage these and other menopausal symptoms.

Surgery risks

Endometriosis surgery is safe. But, like all surgeries, it can have risks, such as:

  • bleeding
  • infection
  • Damage to nearby nerves and blood vessels
  • Abnormal connection between two organs in the abdomen (fistula)

Call your doctor if you have any of these symptoms after surgery:

  • Redness, swelling, or pus coming out from the incision site
  • fever over 101°F (38°C)
  • Heavy bleeding from the vagina or the incision site
  • Severe or worsening pain

Can surgery treat endometriosis?

Endometriosis (migrating endometriosis) can return after surgery. In 20 to 40 percent of women who have conservative surgery, symptoms return within five years. The remaining tissue can grow, and it is impossible to remove every misplaced cell of tissue.

The likelihood that you will develop it again depends on the severity of the endometriosis and whether your surgeon was able to remove most of the endometrial tissue during the procedure.

Removing the ovaries is likely to relieve symptoms in the long term, because it stops the hormone fluctuations that tissues respond to. But once your ovaries are removed, you will be in perimenopause, and this will likely lead to symptoms of menopause.
